Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 17, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how the Doom Walk app (the “App”) handles information. The App is operated by an independent individual developer (“we,” “us,” or “our”), not by a company. Doom Walk is built to keep your activity private: your steps, distance, and screen time are measured on your device and stored only on your phone.
By using the App, you agree to the practices described here. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. The short version
- We do not require an account, and we do not ask for your name, email, or phone number to use the App.
- Your steps, distance, walking time, and screen-time usage are measured on your device and stored there — we do not upload them to our servers.
- We use Apple’s Screen Time (Family Controls) framework to shield apps. The App never sees which apps you choose to guard or what you do inside them — the system keeps that private, even from us.
- We do not sell your data, track you across apps and websites, or use your activity for advertising.
2. Information the App uses
(a) Motion & fitness data
With your permission, the App reads step count, distance, and walking activity from Apple’s Motion & Fitness (CoreMotion) on your device. This is how walking earns your scroll credit. This data is processed and stored only on your device and is never transmitted to us.
(b) Your guarded-app selection and screen-time usage
Using Apple’s Screen Time (Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity) frameworks, you select which apps to guard, and the system measures how long the unlocked apps are used so credit can be deducted accurately. Apple’s frameworks are designed so that the identities of your selected apps and your usage of them are opaque to the developer. We receive only the anonymous, on-device signals needed to run the meter; we cannot see which apps you picked or read their contents.
(c) Your settings and progress
Your preferences (such as your earning rate, quiet hours, and goals) and your history (steps, credit, streaks, and unlock sessions) are stored locally on your device so the App can show your stats. This information stays on your device and is removed if you delete it or uninstall the App.
(d) Subscription information
If you purchase a subscription, the transaction is handled by the Apple App Store. We (through our subscription provider) receive your subscription status and a non-identifying purchase identifier so we can unlock Premium features. We do not receive or store your payment-card details.
(e) Support communications
If you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message so we can respond.
(f) Limited technical data
Our subscription and platform providers may process limited technical information (such as device type, app version, and timestamps) as a normal part of operating and securing their services.
We do not knowingly collect more personal information than is necessary to provide the App.
3. How we use information
- To count your steps and convert them into scroll credit;
- To shield your selected apps and unlock them accurately against your credit;
- To show your stats, streaks, and history on your device;
- To manage subscriptions and unlock Premium features;
- To respond to your support requests; and
- To comply with legal obligations and prevent abuse or misuse.
We do not use your activity for advertising, and we do not sell it or use it to train any models.
4. Notifications and location
The App may send you local notifications (for example, when a guarded app is available again or when a window is about to end). On devices where it is needed to keep the walking meter running accurately in the background, the App may use location services during an active session; any location data is used only to keep the session alive and is not stored or shared for any other purpose. You can control notification and location permissions in iOS Settings.
5. Legal bases (where applicable, e.g. EEA/UK)
Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, we rely on: your consent (which you give through the iOS permission prompts for Motion & Fitness, Screen Time, and notifications); performance of a contract (to provide the features you request, including subscriptions); and our legitimate interests (to secure and improve the App and prevent abuse). You can withdraw consent at any time in iOS Settings.
6. Service providers and sub-processors
We use a small number of trusted third parties to operate the App. They process information only as needed to provide their service to us:
- Apple: provides the platform the App runs on, the Screen Time, Motion & Fitness, and Device Activity frameworks, and processes your purchase through the App Store.
- RevenueCat: manages and verifies your subscription entitlement using a non-identifying purchase identifier.
Each provider operates under its own terms and privacy commitments. We encourage you to review the policies of Apple and RevenueCat.
7. Data retention
Your activity, settings, and history are stored on your device for as long as you keep them and are deleted when you remove them or uninstall the App. Our service providers may retain limited technical or transaction records for the period required to operate their services, ensure security, and meet legal obligations.
8. Security
Because your activity stays on your device, it benefits from your device’s built-in protections. For the limited data handled by our providers, we rely on encrypted transport and their access controls. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International data transfers
Where our providers process limited technical or subscription data, they may do so on servers located in the United States and other countries. By using the App, you understand that such information may be processed outside your country of residence, where data-protection laws may differ.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of your personal information, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because your activity and history live on your device and we do not hold account-identifying data, the most direct way to delete your data is to delete it within the App or uninstall the App. For any other request, contact us at doom-walk@outlook.com, and we will respond as required by applicable law.
11. Children’s privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice in the App. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
13. Contact us
If you have questions or requests about this Privacy Policy or your information, contact the developer at doom-walk@outlook.com.
